Rules Students must be 18 or younger on the date of the competition.
Entrants must provide the judge with a published score. Photocopies are not permitted.
Entrants in the JUNIOR DIVISION may play a ‘teaching’ rag (a piece in rag style by a contemporary pedagogical composer such as Martha Mier, Faber and Faber, etc.), or a simplified rag. Junior entrants may use music but are encouraged to play from memory.
Entrants in the SENIOR DIVISION must play an original published rag from memory. Pieces should be chosen from the ragtime era, approximately 1898-1925. Pieces are subject to approval of the LSRS, Inc.
Both competitions will occur before a live audience at UW-Superior. Entry fee Senior division - $25 Junior division - $15
Prizes Senior division:
1st place - $200
2nd place - $100
3rd place - $50
Winner receives $50.
All participants will receive one complimentary student ticket to our Ragtime Recital featuring internationally acclaimed ragtime pianist Martin Spitznagel on March 28th, 2020 as well as a T-shirt, and are invited to play at any of our Ragtime Rendezvous.
